Now the Publick House, this location was originally the Brick Hotel that was built in 1810. It is rumored to be haunted by spirits, phantom perfumes, cold spots, growing noises and other strange phenomena.

  • Who haunts the Publick House…

    The mother of Zephenia Drake, who built the public house in 1810 was also a devout Methodist who adamantly opposed her son building a saloon in a hotel. She was the wife of the Methodist minister in Mendem and died after lightning came through a sanctuary window during a Sunday service and killed her. She as haunted the public house ever since.
